The west of Qatar is where the country gets strange and beautiful. Head out past Dukhan and the landscape turns into empty coast, limestone plateaus, and one of the most striking pieces of land art in the world. Our West Qatar tour brings the highlights of this region together: Dukhan Beach on the west coast, the old Zekreet fort ruins and Film City, the wind-carved Mushroom Rock formations, and Richard Serra's towering steel sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve.
Over a half or full day, a local guide drives you out in a Land Cruiser, because much of the west sits off the paved roads and needs a proper 4x4 to reach. Pickup is included from your hotel across Doha, or from Hamad International for layover guests, and the route is built around what you want to see most.
For anyone who has done the dunes and the city, the west is the wild card, remote, cinematic, and unlike anywhere else in Qatar.
Book NowYour guide collects you from Doha or the airport and heads out toward the west coast in a 4x4, roughly an hour and a quarter out of the city.
Explore the old Zekreet fort ruins, the abandoned Film City set, and the wind-sculpted Mushroom Rock formations that make this stretch of desert look otherworldly.
Reach the four towering steel plates set deep in the Brouq nature reserve, one of the world's most remote and photographed land-art works, with time to walk the full line.
Finish on the west coast at Dukhan Beach for open water and quiet sand, before the drive back to Doha.
East-West/West-East, built in 2014, is four steel plates over fourteen metres tall stretched across a kilometre of the Brouq nature reserve.
Old fort ruins, an abandoned film set, and the wind-carved Mushroom Rocks make this the most surreal corner of Qatar.
Much of the west has no paved access, so our Land Cruisers get you there safely where an ordinary car cannot.
The west is the reason this tour is more than a beach run. It holds one of Qatar's most important pieces of public art and some of its most cinematic desert, and most of it sits off the paved road, so getting there properly is half the experience.
The West Qatar tour runs year-round, but the cooler months from October to April are the most comfortable for walking the Zekreet ruins, the Mushroom Rocks, and Richard Serra's sculpture out in the open desert. Late afternoon is the best time at the sculpture and at Dukhan Beach, when the light softens and the steel and the water glow. In summer, an early start keeps the long drive west comfortable, and on a layover we simply run it around your flight.

Chat on WhatsAppThe tour covers the Zekreet fort ruins, Film City, the Mushroom Rocks, and Richard Serra's desert sculpture, and the full-day version adds Dukhan Beach. A local guide, a 4x4, and pickup and drop are included.
Dukhan and the west coast are roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter from Doha, which is why the west usually works best as a half or full day trip with pickup included.
Effectively yes. The sculpture sits deep in the Brouq nature reserve on unpaved desert tracks, so a 4x4 is strongly recommended. Our Land Cruisers handle it, so you do not have to risk it in a normal car.
Dukhan has a public beach on the west coast, and our tour includes a stop there on the full-day option for open water and quiet sand away from the city.
Yes. We collect layover guests from Hamad International, plan the west route around your available time, and return you with a safe buffer before your flight.
