The west of Qatar is where the country gets strange and beautiful. Head out past Dukhan and the landscape turns into empty coast, limestone plateaus, and one of the most striking pieces of land art in the world. Our West Qatar tour brings the highlights of this region together: Dukhan Beach on the west coast, the old Zekreet fort ruins and Film City, the wind-carved Mushroom Rock formations, and Richard Serra's towering steel sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve.
Over a half or full day, a local guide drives you out in a Land Cruiser, because much of the west sits off the paved roads and needs a proper 4x4 to reach. Pickup is included from your hotel across Doha, or from Hamad International for layover guests, and the route is built around what you want to see most.

The west is the reason this tour is more than a beach run. It holds one of Qatar's most important pieces of public art and some of its most cinematic desert, and most of it sits off the paved road, so getting there properly is half the experience.
The West Qatar tour runs year-round, but the cooler months from October to April are the most comfortable for walking the Zekreet ruins, the Mushroom Rocks, and Richard Serra's sculpture out in the open desert. Late afternoon is the best time at the sculpture and at Dukhan Beach, when the light softens and the steel and the water glow. In summer, an early start keeps the long drive west comfortable, and on a layover we simply run it around your flight.

Dukhan and the west coast are roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter from Doha, which is why the west usually works best as a half or full day trip with pickup included.
